Established in April 2014, MJP Accountants LLP specialise in the property sector and the preparation and certification of service charge and property company accounts.
We are an independent chartered accountants’ practice, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and Partner member of the Association of Residential Managing Agents (ARMA).
Our client base is expansive. Our clients may be owners of properties varying in unit size and who need accounts produced for 3 or 4 lease units, to large scale apartment blocks (which may incorporate commercial units) and new housing developments. We work with owners and managing agents throughout England.
Flexible approach
We have a flexible approach to work, which can accommodate each of the different needs of the owners and property managers who deal with them. We continue to build valuable relationships with both owners and their managing agents and provide assurance to clients and leaseholders that the accounting information is up to date and accurate. Many of our newest clients are freeholders or leaseholders of housing developments where the cost of common area up-keep needs to be accounted for through newly incorporated management companies. These companies are not subject to corporation tax, so we also deal with obtaining corporation tax filing exemptions from HMRC on the client’s behalf.
Efficient & cost effective
As a small, specialised and knowledgeable team based in Torquay, we can produce accounts in an efficient manner, present and discuss financial information to shareholders and board of directors at meetings if required. Our aim is to deliver your service charge accounts quickly and cost effectively upon receipt of each property’s records for the year.

Managing Partner
John established MJP in 2014 to meet the demand for an independent qualified practising accountant who could focus purely on the residential property sector.
With over 25 years’ experience in real estate and asset management businesses, John knows the ins and outs of this sector and helps guide owners and their residential property managers through the maze of accounting, tax and compliance related issues. He has a specialist knowledge of how best to produce and present rent charge and service charge accounts and, as a Chartered Accountant holding a Practising Certificate, is able to provide “certification” of annual accounts.
He, and the team, work with property owners and their managing agents to provide their clients, whether leaseholders, freeholders and/or boards of directors, all the necessary financial reports they need including HMRC and Companies House filings.
John is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Outside of work, John can be found playing tennis and gardening. He also loves to travel. His favourite song is Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and his favourite album is Breakfast in America by Supertramp. By his own admission, when able to relax, he is most likely to be seen sitting on a sunny terrace with a glass of wine in hand!
